so buy me a star on the boulevard.

[justify]If there was one thing in the world that Ryleigh had issues dealing with, it was stress. Whether it had been something tiny as trying to pass a test so she could graduate from high school, however close she might have been to not or something huge as to trying to get a music career off the ground. Though, that wasn't the worst of it all. It wasn't her issues with managing stress that really mattered. It was how she attempted to manage her stress. It was safe and easy to say that Ryleigh wasn't exactly the best person ever. In fact, she was probably the farthest you could get from it. From LSD to excessive drinking to the points of blacking out to just doing things that she regretted all around, there was no saying what mess she'd get herself into next. She was a train wreck. There was absolutely no denying that. She was going to be the sort of musician who ruined her career before it even started because of all the damn issues she got herself mixed into. Was that what Ryleigh wanted? No. Could she help it? No. She had wanted to stop for as long as she could remember. She just couldn't. She needed help and serious help, but just never got it. And, as far as she was concerned, she never was.

So, there she was, once again, trying to avoid everything by just escaping it all. So, where exactly had Ryleigh chosen to go? Well, where else than where a true reckless party girl would go. Clubbing. The one club she had heard of recently, the Viper Room, to be exact. When she got stressed, she went with two options, getting high out of her mind or getting wasted out of her mind. Tonight, obviously, she had chosen the latter. Though, when you had a tolerance for alcohol as high as she did, it took quite some time. So, despite what she had already gone through, the dark haired girl was hardly wasted. She was more or less buzzed, on the verge of being entirely drunk, yet still not wasted. This was why, most of the time, she had gone for the former. It worked quicker and she hadn't developed such a tolerance for it. However, that was now out of the question, due to past experience of hers with mixing alcohol and LSD. There were delusions like no other, to put it simply. Sighing lightly, she scanned the club for a familiar face, hoping there would be at least one person there, just in case of her passing out within a few hours. Not to mention, it was just nice to have company, once in a while. For the moment, Ryleigh probably would have settled for just about anyone to see.

Okay, so that wasn't exactly entirely true. There were, of course, certain people she just didn't want to see. People she didn't exactly get along with, of course, and then there was the people, or well, person, she had taken a different sort of interest in. She wasn't the sort of person who used to actually taking an interest in anyone, as it was rare that someone was able to put up with a train wreck, like she was, though, unless you caught her as she was now, she rarely let on the full extent of it. Downing another shot or two, her eyes once more scanned the room. Damn it, was there really no one here, leaving Ryleigh to be stuck alone with the thoughts that had been pestering her, as of late? Apparently, that was exactly how things were supposed to be. So, there she stood, her drunken state finally sinking in, eyes still darting from place to place, as though begging for someone to just appear. Right now, she would have gone for anyone. Hell, she would have gone for the very person she had taken an interest in. Right now, she just didn't want to drink herself into alcohol poisoning.

It wasn't a sentence most people would expect to be spoken about Nate: it had been several days since he'd been to a club. The last time had been at Jaxon's club, and it had been... interesting, to say the least. He'd spotted Ella, along with a greasy drunk guy coming on to her. To make a long story short, he'd punched the guy in the nose. Not exactly something that happens every night at a club. Either way, Nate had taken the odd feeling he'd had about partying, and turned it into a week at home working on new songs. Really, it often seemed like he was much too lazy to have a career in music. It was nice that he'd actually stayed in his apartment long enough to get something done rather than going out every night and sleeping in until two PM, only to hang around for a few hours before the cycle would start again.

And it was only right that he should be rewarded, right? That was how he saw it, anyways. He was a party boy, always had been, but hopefully wouldn't always be. He didn't want to turn into one of those beer-guzzling old men who thought they were still attractive and cool enough to hang out with the young people. People like that kind of irked Nate. Weren't there boring hotel bars for that crowd, anyways? Nate didn't enjoy thinking about the future, but when he did, he could actually see him having a life. Not going out every night to get wasted. Hell, maybe even having a family. And if things turned out the way he was hoping they would, a decent music career. It wasn't necessarily the fame he wanted, he didn't need his name up in lights - he just wanted to actually do what he loved for the rest of his life, and be heard.

But at this point, he was just addicted to girls, to be honest, so so far a family in the near future was way out of the question. He had got a heart of gold, but his lust was ruining his sweetheart capabilities. But then.... well, there was a girl. He'd always thought twenty-two was far too young to have a schoolboy crush on someone, but apparently he was wrong. He thought he was fairly good at hiding it, though. If he'd just thought she was hot (which she was) and it was purely physical attraction, he'd have no problem with telling her. He never did mind that with girls. But this was different. He didn't usually get real feelings for girls because it doesn't always make it to that stage with them.

He'd only arrived at the Viper Room a short while ago, and it was almost as if his thoughts had conjured her up - because there she was, standing alone. Honestly, he was surprised she wasn't surrounded by a group of guys. If she was, that'd be a little to reminiscent of his last club visit, so in a way he felt relief. And besides, then he'd have her attention all to himself, right? "You know, since you're in a club and all, you might want to try dancing," he said to her when he arrived, the sarcasm obvious enough. "I hear it's pretty fun."

[justify]Tonight was one of those nights where Ryleigh wished that she could have said that that is had been the first time in a month or even a week that she had been in a club. But, if she had attempted that, her lies would have been obvious to anyone who joined the club scene as regularly as she did. Sure, she hadn't gone out the night before, due to prior commitments, yet, the night before, it had been the exact same as it was this night, just a different place. It wasn't an uncommon thing for Ryleigh, sadly. Hell, it was pretty much what she was known for. Besides the fact that she was one of the few people in the world who actually knew what a keytar was, and even less uncommon, someone who could actually play one. Amazing, right? At least, it seemed that way to Ryleigh, who still adored it, despite all the comments she got. Ranging from "that's not a real instrument" to "only people who can't play anything else play the keytar", none of it ever got to Ryleigh. She was who she was and she did what she did. If people couldn't accept that, it wasn't her problem.

Though, right now, besides the excessive drinking and her drug problem, there was only one key problem that stuck out in her mind and that was the fact that she was falling for someone in the band she just so happened to be in. Wasn't twenty-two too old for that shit? Or, at least, wasn't twenty-two old enough to know better than to start liking someone in a band with you that just so happened to also be one of your best friends? Apparently, despite all Ryleigh had thought, none of that was true. Now, for now, all she could hope was that something didn't go horribly wrong, such as her running into him, at the very club she was currently drunk at. It wasn't really a good idea to put Ryleigh in an awkward situation when she was drunk, as things tended to get more awkward, since well, Ryleigh couldn't exactly always control what she did while intoxicated. So long as she could just stay away from one person, until she was sober, or at least, until the lack of sobriety had faded slightly.

But, of course, she just so happened to have the worst luck that anyone could possibly have. This was what she got for dubbing the number thirteen her lucky number. It was an odd sort of karma coming back to bite her in the ass. What exactly had brought on that little episode of wondering what the hell she did to deserve this? Well, it just so happened to be the fact that the very person she was hoping not to run into just so happened to be strolling into the Viper Room and wandering in her direction. Why couldn't she have been otherwise occupied with someone, at that time? Apparently, this was just meant to happen. And, of course, he just had to talk to her. But, there was a chance that this could prove to be fun. She was drunk after all. "Oh really? I wouldn't know. But, is that an offer? Because, you know, I'm not one to dance alone, Nate." Ryleigh smirked, obvious she was drunk, because otherwise, she would have never said something like that to him. Was she going go regret that? Probably. Did she really care? No.

This whole thing just made no sense at all to Nate. Couples in bands never worked out; it was pretty much a golden rule. I mean, look at every couple that had ever been in a band together, famous or not - it never worked. It just couldn't happen. And it wasn't just relationships - if just about anything went on, anything romantic ranging from simply sleeping together to getting married, it always failed. And the bands always suffered because of it. Either there'd be too much tension, awkwardness, and nervousness that their music would take a hit, and if the band was famous they'd seemingly fall off the face of the planet. But more often than not, the groups broke up.

And even if he did think she liked him back (which she couldn't, right?), that was no way to go into something - expecting failure. And it was a weird thing to think about for Nate, seeing as he was pretty much a self-proclaimed optimist. He never gave a damn about the consequences of anything, so why this, why now? It might be because their band had been together for quite a few years now, and they were all really close-knit, and it would just plain suck to do anything to compromise that. He really cared about them, especially Ry, so why wasn't that enough?

See, this was why Nate wasn't so good with the whole feelings thing. And he was pretty sure any male would agree with him on that. Girls analyzed the shit out of their feelings, but guys would either blurt them out or push them to the back of their minds and life would go on. But somehow, Nate couldn't see that happening here, and it was proving to be difficult. Hard as he'd tried, he didn't want to forget. He didn't want nothing to happen.

Now that he was at a club again, he was slowly falling back into his regular routine - get drunk, have fun, forget. Repeat. It was basically his lifestyle, the party, and he wasn't really about to change anytime soon, even if it meant getting sucked into the neon-filled places nearly every night. And now that Ryleigh was here, things were bound to get interesting. She replied, and he couldn't help the trademark goofy grin that spread on his face. He could tell she was already drunk, that much was obvious. And it wasn't like he was surprised - he'd seen her drunk before, and it always proved to be pretty amusing. "Well, come on, Ry, I'm sober - does that sound fair to you? Didn't think so." He didn't wait for her to answer before he went for the bar. "Just... something strong," he told the bartender, glancing sideways to see if Ryeligh had followed. Why wait around for five beers to take effect, when he could just take a couple shots and get out there?

[justify]This was honestly the last thing that Ryleigh needed to put herself through. As though the stress of juggling a band while trying to make sure she didn't accidentally overdose or drink herself to death wasn't hard enough, the reoccurring thoughts of a relationship always managed to weasel their way into Ryleigh's mind, making her mind an even more fucked up place to be. Her mind was never a place anyone wanted to live, the constant thoughts of the hell she was putting herself through and it was all for what? For her enjoyment? For her to kill herself slowly? No. To her, it took the edge off of all her stress. However, to anyone else, it probably simply seemed easy enough to explain in two words. Death wish. That couldn't have been further from the truth, however. Ryleigh did indeed value her life to an extent, just wasting it away didn't bother her. There were only certain things in life that meant anything to Ryleigh in her life. And, well, those were the things she truthfully stuck around for.

If someone knew Ryleigh, they would know exactly who she meant by the people that meant something to her. If they didn't, they would never know. She wasn't an open person. Hence why her emotions towards a certain someone standing before her were under tight wrappings and staying that way for as long as Ryleigh could bear to keep her mouth shut. That could either go two ways. Ryleigh's luck could, for once, find itself to be in her favour, and she would be able to manage to keep her mouth shut for the rest of eternity or until she moved on. Though, second scenario was much more likely to occur, especially given her horrid luck. She knew that eventually, it was going to eat away at her to the point where she would just blurt it out, making herself look like an absolutely fool in front of someone who meant the world to her, but probably didn't feel the same way that she did.

Why did this have to happen? She had just wanted to come out to have a good time and have a few drinks. Nate wasn't supposed to be there. Yet, upon hearing his comment about being sober and trying to change that as he wandered to the bar, she couldn't help but following, pulling her body up onto one of the bar stools by the bar. "Well, then, I guess you better drink fast, Nate," she smirked, a devilish grin growing across her lips. "Because, I'm not going to wait forever." Was that true? Partially. If he wound up taking forever and a day to get to her level of drunkenness, then yes, she was going to leave. Otherwise, it was unlikely that she would leave. "I can always just go find someone else, if you're not interested," Ryleigh teased, unsure of why she was playing this game. This was going to be a mistake. Yet, Ryleigh couldn't bring herself to stop messing around. But, drunk plus drunk was going to equal in disaster. That much was obvious.

Nate leaned on the bar a bit as he waited for the man to return. He raised his brows at Ryleigh’s comment, and couldn't help but chuckle a little. "Yeah, you COULD go find someone else, but I really don't think that's what you want, is it?" he responded, shrugging his shoulders. He wouldn't take long, anyways - he wanted to get out there. The bartender made his way back over and slid the drinks in front of Nate. He downed the shots in quick succession, swallowing back the burning sensation in his throat. This, being at a club with Ryleigh, wasn’t really a rare occurrence. They'd partied together before, gotten drunk before, but usually it was in the company of their other friends or the guys in their band. So this would be... interesting.

Anyone who knew Nate knew that he was loud, confident, obscenely goofy. And he had a big mouth, that was a given, so keeping things to himself wasn't usually his forte. But at least his expression could always be taken at face-value, because he was extremely straight-forward and honest - sometimes too honest or tactless. Because of all that, it was really a mystery to Nate as to why Ryleigh hadn't figured out that he liked her. He doubted she was extremely oblivious, so it had to be that, by some miracle, it remained hidden.

Take Nate's big personality and add some (or a lot of) alcohol to the mix, and it'd be an interesting combination. His outgoing nature would only double and he'd become even more ridiculous than before. And really, for someone who was so open about things in his ever day life, how would he expect to keep his little 'crush' a secret after tonight? Maybe he couldn't. But would that be such a horrible thing, anyways? It had to come out eventually, right? And better now than waiting until he became even more hung up on her than he already was. That could only spell disaster.

It could go one of two ways. Either she didn't think of him in that way at all, and they'd both have to deal with it and he'd eventually move on. Or she'd express the same feelings, which would be a fucking miracle, and they'd figure out where to go from there. Either way, it was going to be awkward. Getting plastered probably wasn't the best choice, given the circumstances - but hey, maybe if it did come out, she wouldn't even remember.

"Okay, let's goo!" Nate exclaimed, pretty much being his usual self whether he was drunk or not. He flashed a grin at Ryleigh before leading the way out to the dance floor, snaking through the crowd (a difficult task when you're a tall, lanky man), heading straight for the middle. Fuck feelings, fuck the future, fuck awkward conversations - he was going to have fun.

[justify]Waiting had not been something Ryleigh found desirable. She was an in the moment sort of person, so any delay she experienced had never really been anything desirable to her. But, right now, as much as she didn't want to wait, she wasn't going to walk away. He was right. She could have left. But, did she really want to? No. Ryleigh didn't want to leave, walk away, and find someone else. But, of course she wasn't going to let that on. "Maybe, it is. Maybe, it isn't. Guess you'll never know." She smirked, loving teasing people like that. Truthfully, he wasn't ever going to know, because Ryleigh had no intentions on leaving. Sighing slightly, though not audibly, she glanced around the entire club, leaning against the side of the bar, waiting. Though, just as she was getting used to standing there, barely propped up, Nate was taking off. Finally.

She followed him through the crowd, making it easier for her, because she could just follow in the path he had cleared. If she had been sober, Ryleigh probably would have been questioning whether or not this really would have been a good idea. However, seeing as the last time Ryleigh had been considerably sober was a few hours ago, none of that came into play. She was drunk, and there was no denying that. But, that made everything so much easier. That way, if anything went terribly wrong, she could just blame it on the alcohol. "So, you've got me all to yourself. For now, at least. You gonna do anything?" Ryleigh teased, a devilish grin forming across her lips. There was no denying the tease that she was when she was drunk and it was going to shine through right now. "Or, am I going to have to make the first move? It's not exactly my style, but I suppose I could change my ways, if absolutely necessary." Truthfully, Ryleigh probably wasn't. She was just trying to edge him into doing something. At the moment, Ryleigh couldn't have cared less what it was. So long as he did something.

It was times like these that made Ryleigh entirely grateful that she wasn't a guy. See, with a girl, getting turned on actually took time. With a guy, it didn't take much. Or at least, not in her recent encounters of that sort, it hadn't. Though, she was hoping that that wouldn't come into play tonight. Because, that sort of situation tended to not end amazingly for Ryleigh. In fact, there had only been once that she could recall that it didn't end in something she regretted. Though, tonight. She wanted to have fun. And she was going to. "Well, what's your choice, hm?" Ryleigh smirked, knowing she was acting much younger than she was. But, hell. It was fun. And, that was all that mattered.

"Ry, you really make no sense when you're hammered. If it was what you wanted, you'd go. And yet, you're still here," Nate shook his head at her, as if disappointed with her reasoning skills in this state. "Yeahhh, always knew you had a thing for me, babe," he teased her, though of course she'd never know how much he wished that were actually true. Really, pretty much everything that ever came from Nate's mouth was either sarcasm, a cheesy joke, or carbon dioxide. It was a widely-known fact among people who had ever even just spoken to him.

Getting bumped by dancers from all directions, Nate glanced over his shoulder to confirm that Ryleigh was following. It would be just his luck if she chose to try to be funny and sneak away, leaving him with the choice to either track her down or go on without her - but no, she was right behind him. Once they were in a good spot, he stopped, and joined right in on the dancing. While you'd expect a tall, lanky man like himself to be quite the awkward dancer, he surpringly wasn't. It definitely had a lot to do with his music experience. He was far from graceful, but he moved just fine.

Nate could only chuckle at the first thing Ry said. Damn. Why did she have to do this to him? For being such close friends, and given the amount of attraction he had for her, they didn't actually flirt all that much in their everyday lives. It just seemed appropriate with the setting, and besides, they were both fairly drunk at this point. It was apparent to him, though, that there was really no meaning behind the girl's words. She was a tease, and he was just a boy who happened to play into her little games. So she flirted, and he flirted right back, but at the end of the day, all they were and would ever be is just friends.

"Oh, the possibilities are endless..." Nate shrugged his shoulders in false innocence. "So long as I get you for more than... what is it... seven minutes?" he added, making a pointless reference to that junior high party game. "But the first move? I think I can handle that." Oh, fuck it - he was tired of thinking things through and actually caring what the outcome would be. That wasn't his style. Shouldn't he just treat Ry just as if she were any other girl (even though in his mind, she wasn't)? He mirrored her grin, and banished any opposing thoughts from his mind that were telling him what he was starting would be a mistake. He put his hands on the sides of her waist and gently pulled her to him, starting to close the already minimal gap between their bodies. His hands slowly slid down, stopping to rest just on her hipbones. "Your turn," he raised his eyebrows at her and smirked, curious to see her reaction.

[justify]If there was one thing that Ryleigh would have loved to have denied, but couldn't, because she'd find herself acting like a stone cold liar, it would be that she wasn't having fun with this. But, she was. She loved acting like such a tease, and trying to get people to want her, rather than her having to do everything. She had a knack of getting people to come a bit out of their element, though, it usually helped that half the time, those people were wasted out of their minds. And, this time was hardly different. Well, in the wasted sense. In the sense as to how Ryleigh wanted this, it was entirely different. Usually, it was just for the hell of it and for the entertainment. But, no. With this, she actually wanted something to come from it. Though, trying to attempt that while drunk was probably not her brightest idea, seeing as Nate could have probably just thought it was the alcohol and vice versa. Except, Ryleigh knew for sure, from his side, it was just going to be the alcohol. He didn't like her, at least, not like that.

But, despite that, she was going to enjoy this alcohol induced night, anyway. The grin remained plastered along her lips, as she listened to his responses. Seven minutes? Nah. As long as you want sounds better, right? Let's go with that, then." It sounded pleasing to Ryleigh, and given the mutual drunken states, she was pretty sure that he would be in agreement. She couldn't deny that she was happy when he agreed to her teasing terms and she definitely liked what came after. It was an amazing thing that she was drunk, otherwise, she probably wouldn't have had the nerve to do half of this. Feeling the space between them diminish and his hands on her hips, Ryleigh smirked. "My turn? Alright." Giving her a chance wasn't probably the smartest idea, but, Ryleigh was most certainly going to take advantage of that. For one, Ryleigh was rather good at making no space into even less space. How exactly? Well, she had her ways.

Slowly, Ryleigh pulled herself closer to him than there was even space for. Did she care if she was any closer people probably would be starting to say something? No. She had a knack for making no space into space, which was obvious by the new found pressure. To make matters even worse, Ryleigh wasn't done there. Still slowly and still smirking, Ryleigh tugged his hands down about three inches lower, leaving them there, in a very...intriguing position to say the least. Not intriguing as in unusual. But, intriguing as in it was intriguing to her to see what he was going to do. The final touch was her swaying slightly to the music. Not enough to do anything, but was movement nonetheless. "Your turn, again. Unless you don't think you can top that." Ryleigh winked, saying what she had to say in a lighter, more whisper-y tone than she had the first time. She was enjoying this. She most definitely was.

Ryleigh didn't like him like that - Nate was certain of it. Why would she, anyway? First of all, he'd probably be a terrible boyfriend. He'd only ever had a couple of real relationships in the past, and neither had ended perfectly. For one, he was a complete failure at commitment. It wasn't that he cheated, because in his opinion anyone who did that was scum, he just wasn't the most... reliable person around. He was trustworthy and one hundred percent loyal to those he was close to, but he was generally a little to unpredictable and forgetful to stick to things. He'd promise to pick someone up at eight, then find himself still sitting on his couch watching TV at nine, before realizing, and then feeling totally guilty. And daring? Totally out of his element. Unless a girl's ideal date was hitting the clubs and getting drunk, he was pretty well clueless. Aside from that, he could probably manage the whole dinner-and-a-movie thing. Or a concert.

But who was he kidding? Even if he DID ever tell Ryleigh how he felt, and even if she DID feel the same way (doubtful), there was no way she'd ever want an actual relationship. Hell, he wasn't even sure what HE was after. They were both generally fine with strictly physical relationships, but everyone knew, especially him, that something like that would only make things even worse. Anyone with half a brain knew physical relationships, friends with benefits, fuck buddies, whatever, ended badly ninety-nine percent of the time. Usually someone would get emotionally attached - it was like a golden rule, pretty much unavoidable. If you were friends with the person, sometimes things would go back to normal, but that usually wasn't the case. And he had a funny feeling that if something ever happened to him and Ry, things would probably never be able to go back to the way they were.

But through all that, he still couldn't deny any longer how he felt about her. Despite his best intentions, despite how much he wished they could just be best friends for the rest of time, he couldn't stop himself from feeling the way he did. And she certainly wasn't making this easy, given they way she was acting right now. He wasn't innocent here either though, because he was playing right back. "As long as I want? Why so generous?" Nate questioned with a smirk, still moving along to the music, keeping her close. What she did next threw him off guard, but he didn't let it show. And he definitely didn't protest. "I think you're forgetting," he began, speaking softly, "how competitive I am." He leaned down, and before he could talk himself out of it, he kissed her. His mind was screaming at him how much of a mistake that was, and much as his body was protesting, he had to pull away eventually. He did, and he kept his forehead against hers, but he didn't make eye contact. "Next..."

[justify]Sure, Ryleigh had partially known what she was getting herself into when she had started acting like such a tease, leading him on, trying to get him to come onto her, and just altogether acting rather whore-ish. Sure, she had known that he was going to do something way more intense than what she had done, as that was the only way someone could top what she did. But, never did Ryleigh think that he would have done what he did. Was she hoping he would've? Hell yes. But, she thought it was something too far fetched to even hope for. He didn't like her like that. Or did he? No. He was drunk. That was the only reason any of this happened. Yet, Ryleigh still liked it. Feeling his lips on hers and finally getting that kiss, yet, was it even going to be something Ryleigh remembered? She was hammered beyond legal limits and that wasn't a good sign. She rarely remembered the nights she had when hammered, and, as much as she didn't want to forget this, there was the sneaking feeling she would. But, for now, she was going to enjoy herself.

Admittedly, Ryleigh was disappointed when he pulled away, still leaving himself against her. Though, that disappoint faded slightly, as she found herself prevented with another challenge. She was supposed to top that? How in the hell was Ryleigh going to manage that? She stood in absolutely silence, barely even moving for what felt like an eternity, though, in reality, it was all but a few seconds. "I...You...Just..." Sighing lightly, Ryleigh shut up, trying to gather her thoughts and figure out a way to combine them with her speech. Usually an easy thing for Ryleigh, it was a difficult thing, this time around. "I don't know what to say..." Ryleigh trailed off again, still trying to manage to mix her thought with her speech into a way that it would actually make sense. She knew exactly what she wanted to say. She wanted to tell the truth that she was sick and tired of hiding. She wanted to explain how things really were. How she really felt and just everything. There was another small pause, as Ryleigh gathered her thoughts, finally.

This wasn't going to be easy. But, she had to say it. "My go? Well, I can't exactly top that, but, listen to me, there's something you need to know. I don't know why the hell I'm admitting this, because it's just going to make things fucking awkward and I'm going to sound like a twelve year old school girl. But, I like you, Nate. Okay? I really do. I thought that I was too old for shit like that and that I would never even think of anyone like that, but, I do. And, I get it, if you don't feel the same way, because, I doubt you do. You could do so much better, anyway. Who wants a fucking drug addicted, alcoholic trainwreck who can only play the keytar? But, now you know..." Ryleigh trailed off, one last time, biting her lip furiously, drawing blood almost instantaneously, but, she barely noticed and couldn't bring herself to care. Why the hell had she just done that? How stupid could she get? Fuck, this wasn't going to end well. And, Ryleigh knew that. Yet, somehow, she wouldn't have taken back doing it. She glanced up at Nate, hoping for some sort of reaction. Anything. She didn't care what he said, as long as he said something. That was all she wanted, right now.

When he kissed her, she didn't pull away. He wasn't really surprised - they were already playing this little 'game', after all. Nate really didn't know where this was going. She could walk away, leave him in the dust. They could keep dancing and pretend nothing had ever happened, and hopefully the alcohol would make them forget everything by morning. But really, what good would that be? They'd just be back at square one; if not, they'd be worse than square one. Why did feelings have to be so damn difficult? It all made Nate miss being a kid, when people didn't care about things like that. Girls had cooties, you didn't have to pay bills, you didn't need a job, and you could play outside all day without a care in the world. Nate didn't want to be an adult, he didn't want to sort this mess out, but he knew he had to. He also needed to stop being so freaking pessimistic about it. It was so out of character for him. Why was it that his mind just couldn't accept that something good COULD very possibly come out of this?

It was clear that the kiss had caught her off guard, by the way she stood, and struggled to find her words. And then, she started talking again, but this time she didn't stop. He wondered what she was going on about - until she said it. Those words that he'd imagined her saying over and over in his head, the ones he was never able to say himself. 'I like you.' It really was such a childish sentence, but it couldn't be more true in his case. He wasn't able to stop the stunned expression that took over, and he just stared at her. She liked him. No, she couldn't. It just wasn't possible, shouldn't be, couldn't be. Much as he wished it was true, his brain was thinking a million things at once and he just wasn't sure how to react. She was drunk. Much more drunk than him. But being drunk made you say things you wouldn't normally say. Didn't that usually mean saying what was on your mind? People didn't exactly lie through their teeth when they were drunk.

A few moments after she was done talking, he stood there dumbfounded. He rubbed the back of his neck before letting his hand drop back to his side. "I do," he said finally, in response to the question she'd asked at the end of her little spiel. He then realized that she probably didn't know what he was talking about. "I mean, uh. I want her. The drug-addicted keytar player," he said, and swallowed. He didn't like hearing her call herself a trainwreck. She wasn't. Nobody was perfect, especially not them, but that couldn't stop the way he felt about her. "And... I sort of have for a long time now." What he was saying sounded anticlimactic in comparison to her speech, but it was the best way for him to say what he was thinking.
