Sam headed out to the Roosevelt hotel. He'd heard a lot about this place and wanted to see for himself just what the hubbub was about. He was sitting in the vestibule watching the people walk through. There were a lot of famous people here, he recognized about one or two so far. He was dressed in a pair of jeans, a white shirt and a black leather jacket over it. His dark brown hair was falling neatly into place on his head. His blue eyes scanned around, watching closely at the activity here.
He had heard that this place was also haunted. Sam was interested in the paranormal, though he never really told anyone. He was afraid that someone would ridicule him. Let alone think he was crazy or even laugh at him. That's pretty much why he hadn't told anyone. Ever since he was little, he could remember being sensitive around ghosts and just the paranormal in general. He had gone over his friends house , and couldn't get warm for nothing and it was about 90 degrees outside as he lived in Arizona at the time. Later on, his friend had told him after doing some research, a young woman was found murdered in the house and was apparently killed by her own boyfriend.
Ever since then, Sam had become highly fascinated with it and couldn't seem to get enough of it. Being he lived here in Hollywood, there were a lot of famous haunts here. Today he just decided to come and visit one of those famous haunts. Sam reached into his pocket and pulled out a packet of gum, popping a piece into his mouth. The activity here, human wise, was still very busy for this time of evening. He liked going there after dark, being it was much more interesting. He sat on one of the large velvet plush chairs and waited to see what would happen.

The day was an average one. It wasn't extremely sunny but it wasn't cloudy and overcast. In a way, it was just right but maybe on the chilly side. Phoenix was used to it. For most of her life she had lived in England, maybe one of the wettest places in the world. It had almost always been gray there and the warmth of the sun in a clear side was a rare but happy occasion. Still, Phoenix had lived with it and in the end she had been sad to leave the country that she had been born and raised in, even if the weather hadn't been missed quite as much. England had been different from LA, and even know she couldn't help but make little comparisons as she walked along the street. So many words were different in America, Phoenix just couldn't keep up. She probably would always speak in her english voice with the words that she considered to be right. It was less confusing for her at least. Although, the lucky thing was she hadn't had to learn a completely new language when coming over here, american was just basically an adaptation of english, or was it the other way round?
Coming to LA hadn't made too much of a difference in her life. Most people around her were big superstars who wandered round followed by a stream of flashing lights and every little move they made was printed onto the front of a newspaper. If they so much as spoke to someone they were considered who they were going out with. It was just so over the top. Phoenix didn't want to be like that. Her parents were relatively famous, that was why they had dragged her out here, but she herself was a citizen and she wished to stay that way for a very long time. Of course, she like any girl enjoyed a good party and the glitz that Hollywood held, but she just seeked something else in life. She was just different to the shiny plastic posers who had simply no rules here. She was sure they probably weren't bad people. They were probably really nice and had just followed their dreams which had led them here - that wasn't bad at all. But Phoenix just didn't see it as a life she herself would love to lead. She enjoyed her privacy and as much as at times she loved the spotlight to be on her, she would grow sick of it all the time.
Phoenix walked through the streets of LA, a silver shirt and jacket clinging to her arms while black skinny jeans wrapped firmly around her legs. Around her shoulder was a nice onyx bag. She wasn't heading anywhere special, but found herself away from the crowded streets which was a nice surprise indeed. Phoenix kept walking until her mouth felt dry. She really did need a drink. Walking was soothing in a certain way, but it was tiring and made you really need a drink. Gazing around at the surrounding buildings her eyes fell upon the Roosevelt Hotel and suddenly curiosity took over, pushing her thoughts of needing a drink aside. Looking up at the bricked hotel a small half smile tugged on the girls lips and she stepped toward the entrance. She had never, ever been here but she had always thought it would be an amazing place to go. Although, she didn't quite believe the stories that they were haunted - she just laughed at those rumors. She wasn't one for supernatural really, but even though she believed in some things, ghosts really weren't one of them. It just sounded too far fetched, not quite right to her at least.
Still, Phoenix headed inside, her eyes scanning every inch of the hotel with wonder as the warmth of the building was around her. It was defiantly a high class place, and if she were looking for a luxurious place to stay this would probably be it. But she wasn't famous and neither did she need a bed for the night, so she would just satisfy her curiosity. It took a while for her to manage to tear her eyes from the wall but when she did, it was a person she spotted next. It was a dark haired, rather good looking man who caught her eye. He was sitting alone on one of the fine velvet chairs, and for some reason Phoenix really wanted to go and speak to the stranger. Really, she had no reason why it should be so, it wasn't like she recognized him from anywhere. It was just something about him. So, the girl made her way over, sitting herself down on a chair near his and letting the weight of her bag fall from her shoulder and rest on the floor. "Hi, what are you doing here then?" It was the first question that came to mind, being the curious person Phoenix was. "I'm Phoenix by the way." She gave a small smile and waiting for the reply that would come. Or at least that she hoped would come.

Sam looked up and spied the pretty wheat brown haired girl before him. Immediately, he began blushing furiously as he watched her. He cleared his throat and began speaking to her softly.
"I'm just sitting here people watching," he said to her smoothly without any stutter. Thats odd. Normally I stutter around girls, he thought to himself with a bit of shock. He wasn't used to speaking to a girl this flawlessly. His blue eyes caught some of the light filtering in from the lamps above, illuminating them, making them appear almost sapphire-ish.
Sam spoke to her again.
"I'm Sam. What are you doing here?" He asked her curiously, again slightly surprised at how easy he was talking to her. He shifted a bit closer to her onto the next chair, hesitated as if he wasn't sure he was supposed to do that, but eventually flopped into the seat closer to her. Sam reached up and rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
"I-I'm also here because I've heard of how haunted this hotel was. I am kinda fascinated by the paranormal etc," he said to Phoenix.
Phoenix was a lovely name. He hadn't heard anything so unique before. Normally the girls he met were either named Jane, Laura, Margaret, all the normal boring names. Sam loved anything out of the ordinary, perhaps it was the reason for his fascination with the paranormal. It was out of the ordinary. He wondered what she was thinking of him now. You're more than likely a loser in her eyes, Sam buddy, his thoughts flashed across his mind like a movie playing on fast forward. It was though his mind was already making up Phoenix's thoughts for her, even though he knew he shouldn't judge every girl.

It was nice to be inside, away from the wind that readied to torment the world outside. It was so much like England had been, except minus the stormy grey clouds. Phoenix gently tucked several strands of hair behind her ear as she sat in the hotel room. Who knew why an average being like her actually lived in Hollywood, well they wouldn't unless they discovered her last name and made the link. Some people in Hollywood never would though, when coming here Phoenix had soon discovered the place was full of blonde bimbos who knew nothing but could only be famous because they look nice. At least she wasn't talking to some idiot now, he seemed like a nice guy to chat with, and at least his face was intelligent, although they always said don't judge a book by it's cover. He was though obviously not a blonde bimbo, that was a good thing. Phoenix would never choose to speak to someone like that. She really did hate stuck up stars who got whatever they wanted. Her own life had been very different from that though and in some ways she had felt that she had disappointed her parents.
It was mostly because she had decided that a role in the spotlight was not her kind of thing. Her friends and of course family had all thought that she was going to follow in her fathers spotlight into the fame. Her father had written a series of books which had hit number one and sold world wide. He was rather well known and although lots of people had read the series, Phoenix didn't really want to be involved with the whole thing. Sure, being rich and having people know who you were was a nice thing, but being famous was so different to that. It was being followed around the whole time by paparazzi with flashing camera's in your face and every move you make being plastered across a magazine. Phoenix would rather stay away from all that, stay in the calm. Maybe it was odd to find her wandering around in LA when she detested these little things, but that was who the girl was and she couldn't help but being here. She didn't have enough money yet to go off on her own and most certainly not to fly and live in England. Who knew though. Maybe sometime in the future she'd find a reason to stay right here and wouldn't really want to leave. But that was the future and as everybody knows, that is a very unpredictable thing.
Phoenix brushed a hand through her long hair as the boy opposite her spoke. It was nice to talk to someone new, and he was recognizable to her as someone famous. Just watching people. She was intrigued why he had come into the hotel in the first place then, if his current reason was to just watch people. That couldn't have been his first intend of course. Phoenix gave him a small smile but didn't have to wait long until his words continued. His name was Sam. That was a nice name she thought, short and sweet. Her name, Phoenix was rather long but then again it was unique. It wasn't every day you came across someone with her name. It was special in a way, and she liked that. Hollywood was full of names that only stood out because of what the people did, their spotlight. Just because they were covering subways with their new movies, cds and clothing ranges. Then Phoenix stood out because of her unique name and although maybe it wasn't the best way to get noticed, she'd rather have been known for what was on the inside, it stuck out in people's minds. Then her last name attracted attention to - that was when all the same questions reared their head.
She listened to what else he had to say, and really it amused her as he admitted that he had come here because of the hauntings. Phoenix hadn't been one for the paranormal, maybe because her father's books had been based slightly off it, they were fiction after all. Although some people did believe in that sort of thing, whereas she just felt the need to laugh at the idea. People were different, these facts just proved that. She decided firstly to answer his question which had come with the announcement of his name. "I'm just here because I wanted to pick up a bottle of water, plus my feet hurt so it's nice to sit down for a bit. I've been walking around LA for most of the morning." Realizing now how her feet hurt, Phoenix slipped off her shoe, pulled her foot off and gently massaged it. It was nice to do that, getting rid of some of the aches and pains that were there. "Paranormal? You believe in that stuff?" She said it in more a curious way than a mocking one. "I suppose some people do. It's not my cup of tea to be honest, but it can be quite fascinated." The girl let out a small laugh. "I guess I just like to stay away from all the scary stuff. Which links so much to the paranormal." Phoenix smiled as she finished speaking and she continued trying to get the sore knots out of her feet. Pumps really weren't the best things for walking long distance in, she ought to wear better shoes next time when she was walking. But then again, she hadn't expected to wander so far today.

Sam nodded as the girl spoke. He decided to elaborate on his response of people watching.
"I heard there was a lott of famous people that come here. I wondered if I'd be able to see any today," he said grinning at her.
He loved all the famous people and Hollywood overall. It was just something that was drawing him to there, and he couldn't put his finger on it properly. He watched Phoenix closely.
She had asked him about the paranormal, but what intrigued him was that she didn't ask him in a mocking tone. She seemed genuinely curious about it. He nodded and leaned forward eagerly, hoping to explain all the fascinating things about the supernatural.
"Oh yes. Specially houses that were built back in the 1800's or farther back, if anyone had died a violent death, they're more likely to hang around again. Like I heard of one case where this family moved into this lovely Colonial house. A few weeks later, things started happening and their dishes started flying off the shelves, voices could be heard in area's of the house that no one was in. Turned out the house was a stop back in World War II for us, but they had prisoners captive there that died." he said to Phoenix.
He had done some research on the house and ended up coming up with it. There were just things in this world that could not be explained. Those that believed it was all scientific junk, seriously were ignorant. Who were they to say that ghosts don't exist? Do they have ample proof they don't? There was a lot more proof to show they DO then they don't. There were just some things that cannot be explained.
"There's just so many things that cannot be explained by simple science," Sam said to Phoenix brightly as he waited.

The old Roosevelt Hotel was a nice place to stay, that was for sure. With her little time here, Phoenix had begun admiring all the decorative features to the building and was enjoying it's setting. it was a beautiful, spacious place that had the charm that mostly older buildings held. That originality that the place held was pretty amazing, and if you had a lot of money she was sure it would be a lovely place to stay. Fit for the celebrities that wafted in and out of Los Angeles. That of course, excluded Phoenix. She wasn't one of those hyped up stars, sure, maybe a few people recognized her last name of Cassidy. This was only because of her father, a man who had his name already in the spotlight thanks to a series of books he had written. Well, Phoenix lacked the patience and dedicated time to write a long book and neither did any other career paths such as acting or singing inspire her. So she had set out to be normal, simply an average person living in a place that happened to have stars walking the street. She was still doing her studies and although she had a vague idea of what she wanted to do in life, she had yet to find the thing where her heart actually belonged.
The girl let her finger doodle a random pattern on the arm of her chair, still thinking about the place where she sat. The hotel, amazing as it was, was of course well known for other reasons. Some of which the boy in front of her had already expressed. The stars that had stayed here before. One of these included Marilyn Monroe, who was of course extremely famous. Her fame here had things to do with her staying here, but also to do with that the hotel was said to have her haunting spirit wandering it. It was something that Phoenix laughed at. Supernatural. Well, she loved reading about it in gripping tales, but those were fiction. In real life, in the actual world, she was sure they didn't exist. But that was her own opinion and she knew very well that others opposed her. This boy opposite her had just been saying that he believed in the very things she did not. Maybe it was to do with how she was raised, or simply how her personality had adapted. But she didn't believe in them and being a stubborn child, it was unlikely that she ever would. That was just the way it was.
She was snapped back, out of her thoughts by the males words. She nodded, agreeing with this one thing. "I'm sure we most likely will. So, your not famous yourself then? Most people around here seem to be involved in the glitz one way or another." That was Phoenix's curiosity coming out. She loved asking questions and getting responses, maybe because she found her own life so boring. Everyone else around her was always far more intriguing and so it was better to find out more about them. After all, her life had not been full of events. Living in California and seeing all the celebrities had just about been the most exciting thing, and yet the girl still preferred England. Another question came to mind, but she decided not to speak it yet. Ah, she had loads of questions if she really thought, for this Sam. Such as whether he was born in California. For the moment it was best to keep her lips shit anyway, she didn't want to scare him with bombarding him with all these thoughts. Anyway, their conversation at the moment was going well, and it was just about to progress. Phoenix stopped massaging her foot and slipped it back into the ebony shoe, waiting for more words to fill her ears.
They soon came, and Phoenix listened, enjoying hearing the boys opinion and also getting a better grasp of his personality by doing exactly this. She smiled slightly as he leaned forward, realizing how agar he was on this supernatural chat. Something she really wasn't so interested in. She grinned as he finished. It was a nice story, but to her it was just that - a story. Nothing more. She couldn't see it as realistic, just something that people claimed. "Well, honestly, to me it sounds more like a story than something to happen in the real world. I'm sure people have died nearly everywhere there is in the world, but these just seem like claims with no actual proof to go with it." Phoenix pointed this out. She didn't want to start some huge argument over this supernatural stuff, but she would fight her corner and state her beliefs. She didn't think ghosts and other such things existed, she wasn't the only one in the world. That was that. At his next comment she shrugged. "Maybe, but if you look close enough there is a reason. There's no more proof that this stuff is real than it isn't. And so this argument can go on forever between people, based entirely on their beliefs." Phoenix let out a light laugh and turned her gaze about the room. People came and went, but none seem to notice the two of them. The girl turned back to the boy, waiting to see what he would say next.
